Accomplishments of Offspring
Sires: 50 points for first title only earned by offspring. Dams: 50 points for first title only earned by offspring. If a dog goes into the Hall of Fame based upon 800 points, the dog may not earn more than 500 points in any one venue. The Board and the Hall of Fame Committee reserve the right to change the point schedule as the need arises. THE REGISTER OF MERIT
The Register of Merit is intended to honor those dogs which have reproduced well. In order to become a ROM dog, the dog has to have a minimum of four Champion get or dogs with advanced performance titles such as a CDX, RA or any advanced Agility title. Register of Merit certificates are supplied by the Awards Committee upon the request of the owner of the dog. | Once upon a time, when the Hall of Fame was first proposed getting a dog into it was a relatively simple process. All you needed to do was show the dog until it had acquired 800 or more points and then finish one of its’ puppies, or breed a dog until it had 8 champion puppies and then put 10 breed points on it. Not all that difficult, as long as you had a good dog, or one who reproduced well, and produced nice, finishable puppies. BUT, someone asked, what do we do with those wonderful dogs that also do great things, but aren’t champions and will never reproduce? In other words, what do we do with performance dogs? Since it was necessary to have credit in least two disciplines before a dog could get into the Hall Of Fame, this could be problematic. We found a way, but it wasn’t all that easy. There were dogs out there that only did Obedience, nothing else. It was truly a problem. Not so today.... Do you want to get your dog into the Hall Of Fame? Do you want to enjoy your time with him/her? Do you want to form a really strong bond with your puppy? Do performance. These days we have more than one venue where we can play with our pets. There’s Obedience, Rally, Agility (for the physically fit only, please... human... not dog... well... dog too), Earth Dog, Tracking and anything else the AKC might decide our dogs are capable of doing. In 2005 11 dogs were admitted to the Hall of Fame. Of those 11, 6 had performance titles. In 2006, we only admitted 9 dogs to the Hall, and of the 9, 5 had performance titles. From the beginning of the Hall of Fame until 2000, 12 dogs were admitted who did not have championships. Since 2000, 6 dogs have been admitted who have not been champions. This is a significant increase, and it can only continue as more and more of our dogs do other things. Join the crowd, have a good time, go play with your dog, get those titles... it is worth it in so many different ways. 8.2 Hall of Fame Point System Inclusion in the Hall Of Fame requires a total of 800 points earned from two different categories or 1500 points earned in one category only. The Committee shall compile points from the AKC Gazette Show Awards listings except that copies of Temperament Test Certification, Canine Good Citizen Certification, proof of Therapy Dogs visits and copies of Flyball titles shall be sent by the owner to the Awards Committee Chairperson. Activities are limited to American titles only.
